Papula-Nevinpat s Patent Agent Pinja Jaspers gives Aalto PRO s Patents-Industry-Technology program a solid recommendation: Aalto PRO s training was one of the most professionally organised programs I have ever taken part in. In the course of the program, I gained a comprehensive view of the entire global IPR field. I think that every person dealing with patents should participate in Aalto PRO s Patents-Industry-Technology program.
Jaspers has a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. Alongside working, she also intends to complete her law degree in the near future. “I have always had a very broad interest in different topics. Mechanics, for example, intrigue me. I am surely in the right field; I get so enthusiastic about new things. As a patent agent it is rewarding to see new ideas – and you always can tell when an idea is good!”
Jaspers describes her job as proactive. Her clients have a variety of different kinds of patent issues and Jaspers’ work involves globally supporting her clients from the time an invention is made up until a patent is granted. In addition, a patent agent’s job includes helping clients in possible patent disputes. “I have extremely interesting clients and it is fascinating to see diverse patent strategies. Continual learning and enhancing my own professional expertise are important in my work, as you need to be able to understand very complex issues fast in the patent industry.”
Customer orientation is an important value of our company, and as a patent agent it is good for me to comprehend the variety of perspectives different actors have to patent issues.”
Jaspers attended Aalto PRO’s Patents-Industry-Technology training program when she started working in the patent business a few years ago. She says the program gave a comprehensive foundation for work in the industry.
”Aalto PRO’s planning committee had done a very good job. The program included talks from a highly versatile group of experts, and these lectures were coordinated extremely well: everyone had a clear focus, each person spoke of the IPR field from their distinct perspective. Hearing all the different experts gave me a great deal. Customer orientation is an important value of our company, and as a patent agent it is good for me to comprehend the variety of perspectives different actors have to patent issues.”
”The program gave me a holistic view of the IPR field. It covered a broad range of subjects in addition to formal patent questions. I also learned about competition matters in general: what is allowed, what is not and how licensing and franchising fit into the picture. I heard from corporate representatives how they plan patenting around the world – and lawyers explained patent dispute cases they had experienced: attempts at going around patents and patent infringements. The program also covered the difference between a patent and a Community design and included information for example about Chinese counterfeit goods. I already had law studies behind me when I took part in the program, but I still learned very much.”
”All the arrangements ensured easy networking and during the program I got to know a broad range of experts from different areas of the patent industry. My own supervisor was one of the speakers, which was an added bonus for me, as I was just starting work at my current job.”
In Finland a considerable portion of all new recruits in the patent industry take part in Aalto PRO’s Patents-Industry-Technology program. At Papula-Nevinpat all new patent agents participate in the training. Jaspers believes that learning the ins and outs of the patent trade would be an advantage to others as well:
”I am sure the program would benefit experts working in industrial product development, even if patents don’t have a large role in their current work. Immaterial rights are increasingly important to companies and understanding patents and the IPR world helps open up the entire field of innovations in a new way.”
